Goyo
Biography
Gregorio Dominguez Gonzalez (Goyo) was born in Fuentecen, near Burgos in 1960. He studied with the Marist Brothers and joined their Order in 1980. He combined teaching with a career in the arts which he completed in 1987. At that moment he decided his vocation was painting and he abandoned the Order leaving behind numerous murals in different colleges and churches. His formative years studying for the priesthood had a profound effect on his work. He gave up his vocation to devote his total “self” body, spirit and soul entirely to his painting. The demanding self-discipline’s of his ecclesiastical upbringing and training reveal themselves in his natural intellectual ability to assimilate the history, architecture and culture of his homeland and to depict these roots in an ordered harmony of form and colour. Goyo is fascinated with the works of the 16th and 17th centuries which inspire his favourite themes; still life, the human body and landscape. The intriguing result is a contemporary fusion of Renaissance Europe and the Classical World, combined with elements of the abstract and the surreal. Collectively these facets form a harmonious whole of beauty, serenity, peace and silence. He has held a number of one-man shows throughout Europe including the Sammer Gallery, Madrid, Galerie Celia B. Geudj , Lyon, France and the Albermarle Gallery, Londo
