Shane McCoubrey
Biography
Shane McCoubrey graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1993 with a MA in Fashion and Textiles design and has gone on to work for all the major luxury brands in the world such as Dunhill, Louis Vuitton, Ferrari and Gucci. Shane designed a huge range of products from menswear to leather goods to Home and Gifts. He is still currently working for a number of major brands on a freelance basis while concentrating on his painting in the other half of his life. Yet it was on his world travels he was always sketching the landsapes that he saw and decided to turn that understanding of texture, form and colour into a way of expressing his awe for the drama of nature. On many of his plane journeys the horizon line at sunset was a complete fascination to him. Absorbing all the colours from the skies and mixed with his heritage of being brought up on the land in Ireland creates a total undestanding of how nature works a totally perfect functioning entity when it is in balance. Many of the scenes he paints are based from his trips to the West of Ireland, Scotland, East Kent and the amazing skies of Northern California. Much of Shane's work is freely brushed based as much in the dynamic possibilities of paint as in any ostensible subject matter.The energy of brushwork, uninhibited colour and overall glow emanating out from the centre focus point of the painting creates a constantly changing view of a scene that the owner never tires of. There is so much mystery to each scene and interest is never lost in the painting. It was after a number of appearances on Channel 4' programme RELOCATION,RELOCATION with Kirstie Alsopp and Phil Spencer when Shane 's art business really took off with a constant influx of commssions worldwide due to the huge ratings that the programme receives.
