Ben Maile
Biography
This well known signature immediately identifies a certain painter and a certain style to his many collectors.
Early successes in the Sixties when he made annual appearances in the prestigious “Top Ten Artists of the Year” were followed by virtually global exhibitions. France, America, Australia and New Zealand were all happy to invite Ben to take his work along. His work joined more than one Royal collection in the U.K., Middle Eastern Princes and Sultans, one U.S. President and to date one Prime Minister.
In the 1980’s, his interest in the big industrial scene saw him being sponsored by oil giants BP and Brown & Roote to record the building of what was the world’s biggest marine oil field in Th. North Sea and also flew him to Alaska to feast his talents on the first ever Arctic Circle oil production. Tarmac Plc had Ben record the building of Th. Thames Barrage.
A keen small boat sailor he raised substantial funds for the R.N.L.A. with his famous print “In The Face of Danger” and HRH The Prince of Wales wasted little time in inviting him to be the official artist of The Mary Rose Trust when the famous Tudor warship was recovered. The Confederation of British Industries commissioned Ben not only to paint their many and varied work fields but also to write the book that carried his illustrations. This other talent was recognized by the British Post Office who similarly commissioned him to produce another book “150 Years of the Royal Mail”.
